Comics at their best can help us to accept reality as it is. As lenses for seeing truly, they motivate us to deepen our embrace of the good in ourselves and our world and work more ardently to improve the bad.

Sometimes comics aim to be a simple diversion from life’s difficulties. The danger is when comics become saccharine, stale, or sarcastic in ways that lead us not merely to take a short break from reality, but to ignore or deny it.

For instance, gags about the mundaneness of Mondays may lead us to lose our sense of what makes them feel that way in the first place: the malaise of hollow workaday life telling us something needs to change.

To hinder this from happening, read Verifield.
