In a city where immigrant life is dirt cheap and women outnumber men 10 to 1, Khy and Galter are two complete strangers that meet up under their shared desires to find their missing siblings. Struggling to pay the investigators and feed themselves due to their lower social status, they fall deeper and deeper into misery and poverty until they decide to form a support group for those with "special cases" like themselves. People with family members under a legal curse known as Mahlaste, damning child and adult alike to lives filled with hatred and fear. Eventually the two become vigilantes and campaigners for the expulsion of the system from all regions of the globe.
