11-year-old Beatrice Rademacher is an ordinary little trans girl residing in a small town in Illinois. She dreams of one day becoming a magical girl, and in her spare time fights malicious creatures which have begun to appear in the suburb. On one fateful night while doing so she encounters a classmate fighting a monster with magical powers -- a real magical girl! Beatrice tries to convince this classmate to let her fight alongside her and gets pulled into something bigger and stranger than she ever wanted.
