Azumi belongs to the dominant race the Morphos, shape-shifters who can transform into one of four beasts: canines, felines, dragons, and avians. Historically connected to the elves and the mysterious Anthrons, the Morphos have run their homeland for centuries, and have been in a constant quarrel with their feline counterparts who feel no remorse as they cut down minor races, and take in demonic outcasts to further their power.
