Since time immemorial, mankind has perceived the special link they have with the planet that harbours us. It has gone by many names, Earth in our current times, always present in our words and our culture, and there is power behind the names, power that even now we cannot put in words, but only feel in a way that not even Science can describe.
The time of this tale is indeterminate. Perhaps in the near future, perhaps farther away. Mankind is locked in a decades long war, a war to defend themselves, a war against a foreign power, a war where the Earth itself is at stake. The remnants of the old powers seem like the last hope for mankind’s survival, their inhabitants the only ones who dare have hope. Others don’t fare as well, living a clandestine life, away from the prying eyes of the invaders, in underground cities, hidden villages, remote refuges.
It is in one of these hidden places, laconically known as Dome City, that Ran lives her days. Hidden, secret, yet trying to have a normal life, with a family, friends, and maybe one day with someone special to fall in love with. But life in Dome City is about to change forever.
Now, dropping the Ham for a moment; this is a NaNoWriMo project that started as a way to have some fun writing an Anime-esque piece without taking it too seriously. While the main story isn’t one big spoof, I haven’t been shy about putting anything that came to mind that I thought may be amusing, or at least worth a laugh. The objective is, of course, that you, dear reader, will find it entertaining (I know I do!), but the most important thing is the first thing I said: Don’t take this all too seriously… Because I don’t!
